A thousand sets of collectibles : antique & vintage
Bicycles, movie tickets, rickshaws, train parts, telephones, posters, toys, a Bedford van, copper utensils, beer bottles, bottle caps, fountains, hats, picture cameras are among the sets of collectibles of the proud owner, Goorooduth Chuttoo.
Call for reminiscence
Goorooduth Chuttoo walks us through his house to show his collection of pull-up toys, clockwork toys taking us on fantastic scenarios, then the framed excerpts from historic newspapers unveiling turning points in the local history. Amidst piles of old school books, G.Chutoo relates his ‘antique roadshow’ in his Bedford van. He started by collecting bicycles and over the years, he has gathered thousands of objects: keyrings, signs, matchboxes, beverage bottles, tin boxes, bank notes...
Down memory lane
Collecting looks fun and our host does not seem to have made a perilous investment as he calls his collection a ‘Recomposed Past’ and it goes beyond stacking objects as he relates each and every piece to the local history. He is now working on opening a proper museum gathering his collectables. With word of mouth, G.Chuttoo sees a growing number of visitors and he recently had the visit of President Ameena Gurrib-Fakim.
