Keep Calm and Play Golf

Mauritius Island offers more than beaches and scenic views. It is a golfing holiday destination as well, with resorts combined with sun-drenched golf courses having amazing fairways winding through luxuriant tropical flora or set between mountains and the sea.

Pilgrims across the country walked to Grand Bassin with their Kanwars (a wooden structure with elaborate decorations) to celebrate the night of Lord Shiva. Grand-Bassin, the sacred lake is also known as Ganga Talao.

The central market is one of the most visited place in Mauritius by locals and tourists. It is vibrant and located in heart of the capital Port Louis.

Going out at sea depends much on the weather conditions. It is very much likely that boat trips are postponed in summer as it is also time when tropical depressions and storms are more frequent.

Make sure you have your umbrella on the dog days of summer and a bottle of drinking water as you can wait for a while. Before 9am and as from 3pm, buses are more frequent but might be crammed with commuters and school students, dressed in their school uniforms.

A comprehensive booklet available in most bookshops and magazine corner of local supermarkets, illustrates pictures of local fish indicating whether they are safe for consumption or not.

At the foot of the mountain on the beach side, there is a commemoration area with sculptures which is open to the public from Monday to Sunday mid-day. Le Morne beach remains a must-see.

Trou aux Cerfs located in Curepipe on the plateau overlooks the surrounding cities and the west coast of the island. Trou aux Cerfs is around 600m high.

Tucked away in a quiet area off the main road, it’s close to the beach and a number of great touristic spots. If you’re heading to Mauritius and looking for a self-catering option, Apartment des Alizées is worthy to consider.
