In its continued drive for diversification of its tourism markets, the Seychelles Tourism Board participated in the 29th Korea World Travel Fair (KOFTA) from May 29 to June 1, 2014 by the Deputy CEO, Mrs. Nathalie Didon; Regional Manager of Seychelles Tourist Office, Korea & Japan, Ms. Julie Kim; Senior Marketing Executive, Ms. Amia Jovanovic Desir; the Seychelles Honorary Consul General, Mr. Dong Chang Jeong; and representatives from 7 South, Ms. Lindy Cadeau and Ms. Blaisila Hoffman, Creole Travel Services.
Seychelles’ stand was highly appreciated by the visitors of KOTFA with all the five senses. The stand featured the photos showing the heavenly beauty of Seychelles and what it offers and exhibited Seychelles artifacts, delicacies, and newspapers.
Visitors also had a chance to taste the Seychelles Vanilla Tea and to touch the legendary coco-de-mer which brings luck when touching it.
Various events took place at the stand, and visitors had a lucky draw with complimentary accommodation at the Banyan Tree Seychelles Resort (4 nights) for the 1st prize while 49 other winners received gifts such as a lunch voucher for two at Le Domaine de L’Orangeraie, Cat Cocos Tickets, Seychelles Eco-friendly Marathon T-shirt, posters, Seychelles Travel Guide Book, and other items which will encourage them to visit Seychelles.
On May 31 and June 1, the stand held a survival O/X quiz whereby the last top 3 winners received prizes that consisted of Seychelles artifacts, a Seychelles Travel Guide Book, and exotic bags.
“Seychelles is highly reputed in the Korean market for higher-end honeymoon destinations, and we are now trying to expand the market to affordable family holidays, niche, and MICE travels while maintaining the luxury image of it.
Thus, we tried to incorporate these various needs into our promotion at the KOTFA,” said Ms. Julie Kim, the Regional Manager of Seychelles Tourist Office, Korea & Japan.
The Seychelles Tourism Board received attention by a number of Korean media, that was interviewed and covered by MK Newspaper (the no.1 daily business newspaper in Korea), KOTFA Daily, Asia News Agency, Tour Korea, The Travel Times, and The Travel Information Newspaper, to name but a few.
At the closing ceremony on June 1, Seychelles won the Best Publicity Award from KOTFA for its proactive promotional activities for media and KOTFA visitors.
Mrs. Nathalie Didon, Deputy CEO, said: “It was with honor that I received the award on behalf of the Seychelles Tourism Board.
Through KOTFA, I could feel that Seychelles’ visibility has been well established, and the awareness of Seychelles in the Korean market is high and has great potential.”
“I would like to congratulate the proactive work and efforts of STO Korea, the STB staff, and our loyal partners, and we ensure more support is given to further enhance the visibility for attracting more Korean visitors to our shores in the years to come,” Mrs. Didon added.
KOTFA is the largest and oldest consumer and trade fair in South Korea, which this year was attended by around 500 organizations from 57 countries and visited by over 120,000 people.
Seychelles is emerging rapidly in the Korean market as one of the top 3 most-wanted destinations for honeymoon and family holidays followed by Cancun and Mauritius.
