We tested the helicopter tour for you. We booked by phone and sent our personal information by email and picked up our tickets in one of the company’s branch. You can also pay by phone and get your e-tickets by email. That part was quite quick and the staff was very receptive and responsive. You book your date but you are informed about the exact flight time on the eve, which is scheduled according to weather conditions.
We turned up at the given time and unfortunately, we were kept waiting. The customer service failed at this point and after several attempts to reach them by phone, we were finally picked up by an officer an hour later. Departure is from the airport and cost is on a sharing basis as the helicopter can accommodate up to 4 passengers.
Our pilot, very knowledgeable, guided us through the flight as we neared Lion Mountain and Pointe du Diable. We overflew Ile au Phare (Lighthouse Islet) also known as Ile aux Fouquets, Ile aux Aigrettes (see our article) a round- shaped coral island known as a sanctuary for indigenous species, then Blue Bay and the marine reserve from where we could also see the southern coastline. The sensational experience came to an end after 15-20 minutes. The mesmerising ocean views remain our favourite.
You can choose to fly 15/20 minutes, 30 minutes or 45 minutes. The south-west flight is also very famous as the undersea waterfall at Le Morne is visible as the helicopter flies above the ocean. If you are here for a short time, helicopter tours are great opportunities and a quicker way to see whole regions of the island in a short time.
